### Redefining Family Dynamics in "Animal"
The protagonist of the film firmly believes in the age-old adage that blood is thicker than water. For him, the safety and unity of family reign supreme, even in the face of twisted relationships. In his worldview, dysfunctionality within the family is preferable to outright brokenness.
Spanning an exhaustive runtime of 3 hours and 21 minutes, filled with intense bloodshed, testosterone-fueled confrontations, and overt misogyny, writer-director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, notorious for his controversial viewpoints, once again glorifies the alpha male archetype in a tale reminiscent of "The Godfather."
When his father falls victim to a shooting, Vijay assumes the mantle of the 'man of the house,' vowing to protect their steel empire and uphold the family's legacy, albeit with a primary focus on seeking revenge.
Despite grappling with anger and unresolved issues with his father, Vijay maintains an active love life. He entices Geetanjali (played by Rashmika Mandanna) with his toxic masculinity and inappropriate humor. Vijay's demeaning remarks and expectations of forgiveness for his indiscretions paint a disturbing picture of his character.
While popular culture often romanticizes rebellious characters, Vanga takes this notion to extremes. His portrayal of women and violence may deeply unsettle viewers, yet he exercises his directorial freedom in shaping his protagonist's traits. The film heavily relies on Ranbir Kapoor's prowess and star power. His captivating performance, coupled with his raw intensity and magnetic presence, elevates the viewing experience despite the narrative's shortcomings. Yet, Kapoor's talents surpass the material provided, leaving audiences yearning for a more substantial script to complement his exceptional acting.
In essence, while Ranbir Kapoor's portrayal is reminiscent of Joaquin Phoenix's transformative performances, "Animal" falls short of achieving the cinematic brilliance exemplified by "Joker."
